Is there any issue with being under general anesthesia 2 days in a row for 2 surgeries?
I am having 2 surgeries next week, back to back. Both require general anesthesia. The 1st one is about 1 hour long, the 2nd one is the next day and is about 5 hours long. Is anyone aware of the complications, if any of being under sedation so close together?
It won't be a problem. It is not uncommon to have people come back to the OR and receive a second anesthetic a day later.
Some patients will get sort of resistant to anesthetic drugs if they have lots (daily/every other day for weeks) of anesthesia - changing dressings in burn victims, for example- but that's not your case.
If you are intubated for the first case, you may have a sore throat and have a slightly higher chance of a difficult intubation on the second day, but that also is unlikely.
Don't worry about it. You'll be fine. We do this all the time.
